Iwasen-so, a mansion with the wealth and dreams of the Matsui family, is filled with the Taisho Romanticism. The Western-style architecture, built in 1926 as a villa for Mr. Kokuro Matsui, who succeeded in the Philippines trade, stands along the lush Tsubo River. From its imposing appearance and refined interior, you can feel the splendor of that time.
One of the attractions of Iwasen-so is the rare horizontal cave-type irrigation facility, which is also the origin of the name. With the guidance of the staff, you can see the subterranean water flowing from the 50-meter horizontal cave up close. You will also be refreshed by the rock-clear water in the garden.
From the balcony, you can overlook Mt. Garyu and the distant Mt. Fuji. You can enjoy an expansive view. Surrounded by the Taisho Romanticism and natural beauty, there is blissful time here. Leisurely strolling in the garden is also charming.
In addition to the main building, there is a Filipino-style detached building, allowing you to experience the different culture of that time. The warehouse also exhibits retro small items. It is also a popular spot for wedding photo shoots, promising a romantic day.
It is not overly developed as a tourist spot, but rather a well-kept secret. In Iwasen-so, where beautiful nature and Taisho Romanticism surround, enjoy a special experience.
