Situated in Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, Kasayama Kojin Shrine is known as one of Japan's three major Kojin shrines with a venerable history. As the deity of the hearth, it has been deeply revered by the common people, with a history tracing back to ancient times.
The main shrine, seated at the summit of Kasayama, presents an imposing figure reminiscent of a castle wall. The path to the summit is enveloped in a serene atmosphere, offering a mystical experience that cleanses the soul just by walking.
The enshrined deities, Okitsu-hiko-no-kami and Okitsu-hime-no-kami, are revered as the gods who first bestowed fire and cooking methods upon humanity. As protectors of the kitchen, they have been honored as essential figures supporting family life.
Kasayama Kojin is believed to possess a strict nature that despises dishonesty. Visiting offers a good opportunity to reflect on one's actions and regain a pure heart.
Public transportation is limited, but during the grand festival on April 28, a direct temporary shuttle bus (500 yen one way) runs from Sakurai Station North Exit. If driving, be mindful of narrow roads and limited parking spaces.
A visit to Kasayama Kojin Shrine is not merely tourism but a valuable opportunity to touch upon Japan's ancient beliefs and introspect. Enjoy a special experience that offers both spiritual and physical rejuvenation amidst the solemn ambiance and beautiful scenery.
