Jion Waterfall, located in Kusu Town, Kusu District, Oita Prefecture, is a magnificent natural waterfall. Its impressive appearance and surrounding abundant nature captivate visitors. The negative ions emitted by the waterfall are said to refresh the body and mind, making it an ideal place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Standing at about 20 meters tall, Jion Waterfall presents different faces with each season. You can enjoy a completely different scenery depending on the time of your visit: the fresh greenery of spring, the cool spray of summer, the red leaves of autumn, or the majestic ice falls of winter. Especially after rain, you may even see a rainbow over the waterfall, creating a magical scene.
Access to Jion Waterfall is relatively easy, located just a few minutes' walk from the nearby roadside station “Fairy Tales Village Kusu.” The roadside station offers local specialties and famous soft-serve ice cream, providing a fun half-day course coupled with waterfall viewing.
Previously popular for being able to walk behind the waterfall as the “Rear View Waterfall,” access is now prohibited for safety reasons. However, viewing the waterfall from the bridge remains stunning and allows visitors to feel the majesty of nature.
Jion Waterfall is an excellent spot to experience the power of nature even in a short visit. When visiting Oita Prefecture, do not miss this hidden attraction. Spend luxurious time refreshing both body and mind in an environment full of negative ions.
