Shishizuka Kofun is an early 6th-century keyhole-shaped burial mound located in Gouichi, Mihama Town, Mikata District, Fukui Prefecture. Measuring 32.5 meters in length, a rear circular section diameter of 17 meters, and a front section width of 15 meters, this kofun is a precious historical heritage that conveys the presence of power holders of the time.

Unfortunately, the current state of Shishizuka Kofun is quite degraded, with only parts around the stone chamber remaining. To protect the site, the corridor and main chamber have been backfilled and cannot be seen directly.
Shishizuka Kofun is indispensable in telling the regional history. However, it faces challenges such as balancing conservation with surrounding development. Legends of curses associated with damaging the mound may speak to its importance.
We have a responsibility to pass down this precious historical heritage to future generations. The entire community needs to consider the preservation and utilization of Shishizuka Kofun.
