Getting to Know the Iron Town of Kamaishi
Kamaishi has been a town prosperous in the production of iron since the Edo period. In the exhibition, you can learn in detail about the evolution from tatara ironmaking to modern ironmaking technology. There are abundant materials and actual exhibits, and even if you're not interested in iron, you will find it interesting.
From the 3rd floor to the 4th floor, giant replicas of ammonite fossils are displayed. These are popular fossils that have also been exhibited at the well-known Sanriku Museum in Iwate. You are sure to be surprised and impressed by their overwhelming presence.
On the top floor, there is a rooftop observation terrace where you can overlook Kamaishi Port and the giant statue of Kannon. Enjoy the view of the blue sea and the massive statue. After deepening your knowledge of iron, this luxurious landscape will have a special taste.
Inside the museum, there is also a souvenir corner for toys and confectionery, with content prepared for children. This museum is full of attractions that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. It is definitely worth a visit when you are in Kamaishi.
