Shinbashi Station is a major transportation hub located in the heart of Tokyo. It is the starting point of Japan's oldest railway line, opened in 1872, and retains the history of the early days of the railway. On the other hand, modern high-rise buildings also stand around the station, creating a unique landscape of old and new.
The 'SL Plaza' in front of the station exhibits the C11 steam locomotive, which brings back memories of the early days of the railway with its majestic appearance. In one corner of the plaza, there is a monument to the 'Railway Song' that was created during the Meiji era, allowing us to catch a glimpse of the dreams and expectations of the people at that time.
Shinbashi Station is a large transfer station for multiple lines operated by JR East, Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway, and Yurikamome. With multiple ticket gates and concourses, the transfer routes are somewhat complex, so it is smoothest for first-time visitors to adapt to the flow of other passengers.
In the immediate vicinity of the station, there are towering office buildings as well as long-standing traditional shopping streets. This contrasting scenery is one of the charms of Shinbashi. There are also numerous dining options, and the area is bustling with office workers in the evening.
Shinbashi Station is a place with a unique atmosphere where history and modernity, as well as vitality and tranquility, intermingle. When visiting Tokyo, why not stop by and experience it for yourself.
