In Uwajima-cho, a remote island in Ehime Prefecture, visit the Yuge Ohashi Bridge Memorial Park, known as a viewing spot for the beautiful Yuge Ohashi Bridge that connects the islands. The park, surrounded by lush greenery, is equipped with convenient facilities such as toilets and water sources.
The view from the observatory is breathtaking. The Yuge Ohashi Bridge leisurely connects the shadow of the island, and below, the whirlpools continuously circulate. Occasionally, you can even see cars passing over the bridge.
From here, you can walk to the Yuge Ohashi Bridge. As you walk along the sloping suspension bridge, the view gradually opens up. At this time, the striking appearance of the bridge, resembling a beautiful curve of a bow, will catch your eye.
Additionally, the noteworthy swirling currents under the bridge. It is said to be one of Japan's top whirlpool spots, presenting a unique and stunning view typical of remote islands. It is said that even runners can enjoy this unique scenery while crossing the islands in the Nametake Marathon.
After crossing the Yuge Ohashi Bridge, you will arrive at another island. This small island, called Sakijima, is rooted in the Awa Dance.
In mid-August every year, islanders perform the Awa Dance with the grand sound of drums. The sight of preserving this traditional performance on such a small island will surely captivate the hearts of travelers. You will feel like you have stepped into a different space.
