When you pass through the Kaminarimon gate of Sensoji Temple, you will feel like you have slipped back in time to the Edo period. Surrounded by the liveliness of the Nakamise shopping street and the charm of the downtown, proceed along the approach to the main hall. The aroma of senbei rice crackers and kinpindou sweet beans wafts from the long-established open-air stalls, and in the alleys, you'll find a famous hand-made soba noodle shop.
Upon arrival at the main hall, which is also famous as a power spot, offer your sincere prayers to the main statue, the Fudo Myoo of the Fuda. Within the precincts, you'll find the oldest Goshuin stamp office of the Jodo sect. It's also recommended to receive an amulet as a good luck charm.
After visiting the temple, indulge in the exquisite Edo downtown gourmet food at a long-established famous shop. You can taste the flavors rooted in the downtown area of Tokyo, such as the hand-made soba from Kinkuenmon, a long-established shop that boasts a hundred years of history, and the superb anko (monkfish) hot pot from Yanaka, which will make you feel as if you have slipped back in time to the common people of the Edo period.
If you're leaving the lively sightseeing spot behind, it's recommended to take a break at a hidden traditional cafe in the back alleys. Spending a moment of healing time in a quiet and charming space will surely become a wonderful memory of your stay in Asakusa.
