Hataya Shoin, where you can experience the elegance of the Edo period, is a valuable historic site standing in a quiet residential area of Fuefuki City. This thatched-roof old academic building has been preserved as part of the Hataya family's residence, vassals of Takeda Shingen.
Passing through the entrance of Hataya Shoin, you will be struck by the main hall consisting of three rooms. This sukiya-style building, with its serene atmosphere, was a space used by the Hataya family for business negotiations and entertaining guests. They would normally use the middle room, and special guests would be led to the back room. Despite its simple construction, the interior of the Shoin exudes a sense of strength, telling the story of this family's dreams and aspirations.
Many visitors to Hataya Shoin come to enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage in the garden. In autumn, the garden surrounding the Shoin is brilliantly colored, creating a wonderful scenery as if you have wandered into another world. The view from the gate is particularly stunning, and it is recommended to enjoy the autumn leaves while strolling through the garden.
Hataya Shoin is located in Isawacho, Fuefuki City, and is about a 10-minute drive from the nearest JR Isawa Onsen Station. Opening hours are from 9 am to 4 pm (entry until 3:30 pm), and it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There is an admission fee of 200 yen for adults, but you can enjoy the view of the garden from outside for free. It is said that you can receive Japanese spindle souvenirs at the reception.
