The Ono Shrine stands on a small hill in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture. This place is the birthplace of the deeply revered Ono clan since ancient times. It was listed as a shrine in the Engishiki era and was also known as a prestigious shrine in the Heian period. Within the shrine precinct, there is also the Ono Koka Shrine, dedicated to the Confucian scholar Ono no Takamura.
The deities of Ono Shrine are Amenotaruhikonokuniobihiroinochinomikoto and Taganetsuki no Oomi no Mikoto. The latter is regarded as the ancestral deity of mochi pounding in Japan and is also revered as the deity of confections. The spiritual power residing in nature, such as the
