Togakushi Shrine Okusha is a mystical shrine nestled deep in the mountains of Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture. The 2-kilometer-long path lined with cedar trees aged over 400 years feels like an entrance to another world. Engulfed in lush nature, you are quietly led towards the sacred area.
Togakushi Shrine consists of five shrines, with Okusha located in the innermost place. It is believed to bring various blessings such as good luck, wish fulfillment, and sports victory, attracting numerous worshippers. If time permits, a one-day visit to all five shrines is recommended.
On the approach, the red Zuishin-mon gate with its thatched roof stands out. The plants growing on the roof convey the vitality of nature, almost merging with the forest. Upon reaching the main shrine, you'll be enveloped in a solemn atmosphere, feeling a sense of spiritual cleansing.
There is a paid parking lot near the Okusha entrance. Google Maps navigation might not be accurate, so it's recommended to search for “Okusha no Chaya”.
The region is famous for Togakushi soba, so after visiting, tasting the local soba is a good option.
