Kurozuka Kofun evokes the depth of ancient times.
The Kurozuka Kofun standing in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture is truly the source of ancient romance. From the front and rear mounds of the 4th century, 33 triangular-rimmed divine beast mirrors bestowed upon Himiko from Wei were unearthed, surprising archaeologists around the world.
Standing on the mound, it's not difficult to imagine the stage of the rituals at that time. The presence of the participants, aligned facing the direction of the rising sun, seems to revive as if it were just yesterday. This hill, which also offers views of the town of Yaginomoto and the Shambhan tomb, must have held special meaning for the ancient people.
The interior of the excavated stone chamber vividly reproduces the appearance at the time of burial, as if time had stood still. The mirrors and swords arranged around the deceased not only tell of immense power and wealth, but also give a glimpse of the depth of the superstitious faith at that time.
In the adjacent exhibition hall, you can touch the behind-the-scenes of the excavation along with explanations of the unearthed items. Here, you can fully enjoy the charm of the Kurozuka Kofun, filled with various mysteries.
