Nabe Shige Shouten is a townhouse from the latter part of the Edo period, located in the center of Yawatahama City. This building is open to the public as part of the Yawatahama Machinami Museum, allowing you to catch a glimpse of the appearance of a typical townhouse from that era. The distinctive appearance with lattice windows and white walls exudes an atmosphere reminiscent of a historical drama set.
Inside Nabe Shige Shouten, everyday items and furnishings from that time period are displayed in a cramped space. Items such as the hearth, chest of drawers, and traditional lamps emanate a nostalgic atmosphere just from their appearance. Through these exhibits, you can feel the lifestyle of the people in the Edo period.
When visiting Nabe Shige Shouten, it's recommended to also take a leisurely stroll through the surrounding townscape. Stone-paved alleys, white-walled storehouses, and wooden townhouses characteristic of Yawatahama are still preserved.
