Store • 130−1 Yumoto, Nasu, Nasu District, Tochigi 325-0301, Japan
Located at the center of Nasu Onsen Village, near Shika no Yu, is the 'Michinoku Folk Craft Shop'. The interior of this shop, relocated from a mansion of wealthy farmers 200 years ago, is filled with an array of local toys such as ceramics, woodworks, dyed fabrics, and bamboo crafts from all over the country. The charm of exploring the stories behind each piece in a nostalgically time-slip-like atmosphere is extraordinary.
On the mezzanine floor of the shop, there is a relaxing café. Here, you can enjoy the Nasu specialty, 'suiton'. However, the suiton here is unique. Instead of wheat flour, the dumplings are made from sprouted Koshihikari brown rice in a soy-based mushroom suiton, creating a truly unique taste.
Moreover, the carefully selected coffee is exquisite. The coffee brewed with Nasu's quality water will undoubtedly soothe your travel fatigue.
From the café, you can view the charming courtyard. Here, you can see the endangered species sulfur lichen. It offers a precious experience unique to Nasu's abundant nature.
The charm of the Michinoku Folk Craft Shop is not only in its products and cuisine. Conversations with the friendly owner add to the visitors' enjoyment. You might hear interesting stories about the history of Kokeshi dolls or various folk crafts from different regions.
When visiting Nasu, be sure to stop by the 'Michinoku Folk Craft Shop'. In a space where nostalgia meets novelty, you can spend a heartwarming moment.
