Sengan Pass Teahouse is situated on the border between Akita and Iwate prefectures, truly embodying the essence of a pass teahouse. Nestled at the tunnel's exit, the shop retains a deep Showa atmosphere, warmly welcoming its visitors.
Our signature dish, oden, is known for its slightly sweet broth. Featuring a perfect balance of tenderness and crunch in the daikon, alongside various ingredients, it reveals a hearty but not overwhelmingly salty flavor loved by Akita locals.
Beyond oden, we offer a variety of dishes including tempura udon and mountain vegetable soba, the latter praised as 'incredibly delicious.' It’s a dish that lets you fully savor the bounties of the pass’s nature.
From within the teahouse, one can admire the breathtaking view of the valley floor. Especially impressive is the sight of the Akita Shinkansen in transit. Train schedules are posted inside, so timing your visit to watch is highly recommended.
Next to the parking lot is a temporary viewing platform. Constructed of steel pipes reminiscent of a construction site, this platform offers a stunning view of the valley below. Its slightly swaying structure adds a thrilling touch.
Sengan Pass Teahouse holds more allure than just a dining spot. The special experience created by breathtaking views, history, and heartwarming cuisine awaits your appreciation. You’ll surely create unforgettable memories carried by the pass’s wind.
