Takazumi Shrine is located in an area called Buzenbo, a part of Mount Hikosan known for its sacred association with Shugendo. The area, rich with Tengu legends, has long been a spiritual mountain where many ascetics undertook rigorous training.
The approach is lined with moss-covered stone steps, inviting visitors into a sacred atmosphere. Upon reaching the main hall, one would be captivated by the unique structure featuring a giant boulder as a deity. This scene, integrated with nature, tells the story of the shrine's history and the powerful force of nature.
Beside the main hall stands a shrine dedicated to a dragon, where you can draw the sacred water. This place, believed to house the pure water and the power of the dragon god, attracts many visitors as a genuine power spot.
Takazumi Shrine showcases different expressions with each season. In autumn, it is renowned as one of the leading spots for viewing autumn leaves within Fukuoka Prefecture, where the vibrant colors accentuate the shrine's solemn atmosphere. During winter, visitors can enjoy the fantastical snowy scenery as it turns into a snow-laden region.
Takazumi Shrine is located about 10 km up National Route 500 from the front of Hikosan Station. However, the surrounding roads are narrow and have many curves, so utmost caution is required while driving. In winter, snow accumulation and frozen roads may lead to road closures or chain restrictions, so prior checking is essential.
With its mystical atmosphere and abundant natural environment, Takazumi Shrine holds the power to cleanse the mind and body of visitors. As a historic sacred site for Shugendo and a modern power spot, it continues to fascinate many people. Consider visiting at least once to experience its mystical charm firsthand.
