The Kita Ohmi Maruko Ship Museum is a precious museum where you can closely see the 'Maruko Ships' that once supported the water transport of Lake Biwa. These enormous wooden ships, built in Showa 6 (1931), greet us as if stepping out of a time machine.
There used to be hundreds of Maruko Ships, but now only two remain. One of these precious ships is displayed in this museum, allowing you to experience the history of Lake Biwa's water transport firsthand.
The Maruko ship on display allows not just an exterior view but also a detailed interior tour. Observing the intricate wooden structure filled with craftsmanship up close is an unmissable experience for ship enthusiasts.
From the second floor, you can view the Maruko Ship from above, feeling its size and power. Informational panels are also available, providing detailed insights into the Maruko Ship's history and role.
