The Higashi Omon of Sunpu Castle is a valuable structure conveying the past presence of the Sengoku period. Located east of Ninomaru, it was used as a major entrance and exit for senior retainers. Composed of Karamon, Yaguramon, and Tamonyagura, the Masugata Gate is equipped with stone dropping, loopholes for guns and arrows, prominently reflecting the defensive features of the time.
The current Higashi Omon was restored in 1996 aiming for its Kan'ei-era appearance using traditional Japanese wooden construction techniques.
