Historical landmark • 10-33 Daimachi, Kanagawa Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa 221-0834, Japan
The Sekimonato in Kanagawa-Dai, which retains the remnants of the Edo period. At the place where the guards of the Tokaido once protected, stands a monument that evokes the breath of history.
In the 6th year of Ansei (1859), with the opening of Yokohama, the security of Kanagawa-shuku was strengthened, and a Sekimon (checkpoint) was set up in the east and west of the village. And this place is the Sekimonato in the west.
Near the monument, there is also the site of the teahouse 'Tanakaya' where Oryu worked after Ryoma Sakamoto ended his life. It is also a pleasure to follow the traces of the past while thinking about history.
It is very accessible from the city center. However, it is surrounded by apartments, and the atmosphere is quite different from the past. Nevertheless, the existence of the monument still tells the historical traces.
