Enchanted by the nature and history of Bantake
Located in Somen-cho Sashiki, Hirado City, Bantake is a scenic spot representing the west coast of Nagasaki Prefecture. This conical independent peak, though relatively low at an elevation of 334 meters, has characteristic rock formations and bizarre rocks weaving a unique landscape.
One of the main attractions of Bantake is the bizarre rocks hanging down from the mountaintop. The rocks, formed by weathering, resemble natural sculptures. These mysterious rock formations change their expressions throughout the day as the angle of the sun changes.
Bantake was the site of a retired lord of the Hirado-han. It retains the remains of the Edo period, offering interesting historical sights. Despite being a low mountain, it is a place where you can feel the charm from both nature and history.
The hiking trail to Bantake is well-maintained, allowing you to easily enjoy the feeling of mountain climbing. The views from the mountaintop are magnificent, offering stunning views of Hirado's sea, islands, and even the distant sight of Unzen-dake. It is a superb scenic spot where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and fully enjoy nature.
