Taruhiyama Kofun is a keyhole-shaped tomb located in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. It is also known as the Katahiraozuka Kofun and Nakano Shinno Takahata Haka, and is said to be the burial mound of the imperial prince of Emperor Kanmu in the early Heian period.
One of the few keyhole-shaped tombs in Kyoto City, it has a strong presence surrounded by dense trees within the urban area. Although entry to the site is prohibited, visitors can view the entire structure from the outside.
Taruhiyama Kofun is within walking distance from the Uzumasa Station on the JR Sagano Line and the Kurama Station on the Randen Line. The surrounding area includes tourist spots such as the Toei Kyoto Studio Park and the Jazuka Kofun, allowing visitors to experience the history of ancient Kyoto.
It's a shame that you can't enter the tomb, but let's use our imagination. While imagining the figures of ancient kings and nobles sleeping inside, why not feel the weight of Kyoto's history?
