Hanagaki Shrine is a small shrine nestled in the quiet mountain village of Iga City, Mie Prefecture. The vivid vermilion torii gate gently welcomes visitors, and upon entering the precincts, the greenery of the trees and the chirping of birds heal the soul.
Hanagaki Shrine has deep connections to the Iga Ninjas of the Edo period. According to legend, it is said that the ninjas used it as a training ground. It is also said that the sacred tree of the shrine has holes where ninjas used to hide.
During the cherry blossom season, the Yaezakura Park on the east side of the shrine creates a stunning flower scenery. More than 17 rare varieties of cherry blossoms bloom, gracefully enveloping the small hill with a rich and elegant aroma. It is a cherished cherry blossom spot maintained by the local people.
The nearest station to Hanagaki Shrine is Kintetsu Ise-Nakagawa Station. By car, you can easily reach it by taking a small road branching off from National Route 25. Although there are no set visiting hours, it is recommended to visit in the quiet tranquility of the morning or evening.
