A huge Kannon statue with an overwhelming presence overlooks the Tadahora fishing port on Ikutsuki Island. This 18-meter-tall Great Kannon statue was built to commemorate the war dead, the victims of marine accidents, and to pray for the safety of fishing boats and the abundance of sea products.
Stepping onto the base, one is overwhelmed by the dignified presence of the Kannon statue. Looking around, one will be amazed by its magnificent scale. 18 meters high, 3 meters in base, and a weight of 150 tons. The scale surpassing the Kamakura Daibutsu by 6.4 meters is truly breathtaking.
Visitors can enter the interior of the Great Kannon statue for free, where 70 wooden carved Buddhas are enshrined, allowing them to experience the prayers for peace. Even from the outside, one can have a close look at the Great Kannon statue, and one will inevitably bow their head in awe of its solemn presence.
When visiting Ikutsuki Island, why not take a moment to visit this Great Kannon statue? You will be undoubtedly moved by the prayers for peace and its immense presence.
