Seihoji, located deep in the mountains, is known as the 22nd site of the Nagato 33 Kannon pilgrimage. As you climb the approach, you will be greeted by the sudden sound of barking dogs, but once you visit the main hall, a peaceful atmosphere awaits.
The main hall and Kannon hall enshrine numerous Buddhist statues, allowing for leisurely viewing. Further into the mountains, you will find the important cultural property of the Belfry from the Nanboku-cho period, as well as 88 Jizo Bodhisattvas, Kumano Gongen, Benzaiten, Holy Kannon Bodhisattva, and Mizuko Jizo, among various other Buddhist statues. It is recommended to explore the grounds while respectfully visiting each one.
From the grounds, you can overlook the town of Assaka and enjoy the mountain views. Surrounded by lush green mountains, Seihoji offers an expansive view, allowing for a peaceful time of relaxation while taking in the scenery.
A car is convenient for accessing Seihoji, but caution is necessary due to the narrow mountain roads. Particularly for regular cars, watch out for tree branches. You can see Seihoji from the middle of the mountain road, so it is advised to proceed slowly from there. While spring and autumn excursion seasons are recommended, the fresh greenery of summer and the snowy winter landscapes are also charming.
Surrounded by a long history and magnificent nature, Seihoji Temple promises a memorable and luxurious time. From the small town of San'in, you can acquire a tranquil state of mind and beautiful scenery.
