One of my most favorite temple to visit in Kyoto. The complex itself is big. There is a peaceful zen garden if you pay the entrance fee to get inside. Peaceful and cooling walking inside the temple complex. Could spend an hour just staring at the simple yet elegant zen garden.

Visited today April 14 and there were only a handful of cherry blossoms left, most trees were already empty. The aquaduct is very cool! You walk up behind it and on the trail toward the canal, and it leads to the Keage Incline railroad trail, which had more cherry blossoms closer to the canal entrance than the street entrance.

The entrance gate alone is extremely smashing, and all around there are additional temples bearing great historical value and beauty. The famous viaduct provides opportunities for scenic photos...

Nansenji was a beautiful, less crowded, modest sized temple. It was great to see some of different architecture, such as the red stoned aqueduct.

Easily our favorite temple in Kyoto, regardless of the season because of its broad appeal, various attractions, including beautiful gardens and the aquaduct. There is never a time when the temple isn’t busy, so don’t bother waiting, although the mornings is likely the best time to come. Highly recommended and a can’t miss if you don’t live here.
