Twelve years since the Great East Japan Earthquake, Otsuchi Town in Iwate Prefecture, facing the Pacific Ocean, is home to Cafe Inn Kakigurikan, a place where the dreams of the disaster victims reside. This inn conveys Japan's proud magnificent views and a resolute spirit for reconstruction.
Upon arriving at Kakigurikan, one is greeted by the grand panoramic view from the large window to the west, overlooking the majestic Otsuchi Bay and Funakoshi Bay. In the distance, Kesennuma Oshima floats, while to the south, vibrant green mountains loom. Looking towards the east, the view of the Pacific Ocean and the sunrise is especially exceptional.
The use of fresh seafood, unique to Otsuchi surrounded by the sea, results in exquisite dishes. Additionally, local ingredients such as shiitake mushrooms and the renowned product of Iwate Prefecture, 'Nanbu Senbei,' are maximized to their full potential.
Kakigurikan is an inn born in Otsuchi Town, which suffered devastating damage from the earthquake. However, it is filled with the locals' wish to 'definitely revitalize the town again,' and exudes an atmosphere of heartfelt handcrafted items.
Early morning in the eastern sky, do not miss the moment when the sun rises. For overnight guests, the eastern observation deck, open at night, allows for the enjoyment of the sunrise ablaze over the Pacific Ocean. Experience this irreplaceable moment as the beginning of a new day.
