Located in the Shiga district of Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, the Fukujusou Colony is known for its breathtaking scenery signaling the arrival of spring. As winter ends, bright yellow flowers bloom in abundance on the slopes still holding remnants of snow, resembling a golden carpet woven by nature. This beautiful sight soothes many hearts and marks the arrival of spring.
From the Fukujusou Colony, you can enjoy the serene rural landscape along with the snow-capped peaks of the Northern Alps. The contrast of the yellow Fukujusou, the blue sky, and the pure white mountains is indeed a spectacular sight. You can leisurely stroll and soak in this magnificent scenery.
The Fukujusou Colony is conveniently accessible via the “Alps View Shinonome Road” (Prefectural Road 181). Recent expansion work has made parking facilities more complete, making visits more comfortable.
However, the trails on the slopes in the colony are steep in places and covered with wood chips, making them slippery. Please pay careful attention to your footing. Those with less confidence in their legs can still enjoy plenty of Fukujusou near the entrance without pushing themselves too hard.
The “Fukujusou Festival” is held annually around March, attracting many people in 2023 after a long hiatus. However, blooming conditions vary each year, so it's recommended to check bloom information in advance.
Generally, late February to mid-March is the best viewing period. Take in the clear, early spring air while admiring the delicately blooming Fukujusou and feel the transition from winter to spring.
