Enmanji Kannon-dō, nestled on a hilltop in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, is a place where tranquility and grandeur coexist like a miniature garden. Stepping into this place, one's heart is cleansed by the surrounding rural landscape and the view of the mountains.
The origin of Enmanji Kannon-dō dates back to the 8th century when it was initially built as a temple. However, over time, it underwent a syncretism with Shinto, and today, it stands as a rare structure of syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism. In addition to the main hall, there are torii gates scattered throughout the grounds, exuding a unique presence.
The scenery viewed from this place is truly spectacular. In spring, the vivid green reflected on the water’s surface, in summer, the colorful rural landscape through straw hats, in autumn, the impressive contrast between cirrocumulus clouds and burning ear of rice. In winter, one's heart is cleansed by the entire world covered in silver.
Ascending the approach, there are viewing spots with gazebos and benches. Here, you can heal your travel weariness while leisurely enjoying the scenery. Occasionally, you may observe wild small animals playing around, allowing you to feel the breath of nature.
