Exquisite Flavors Created by Famous Kyoto Restaurants

Kyoto is a city where old-fashioned traditions are deeply rooted. However, within Kyoto, there exists a renowned restaurant that creates unique and innovative flavors. This place is known as "Men Shokunin Takamatsu Shijo-ten."

Signature Tsukemen with Fragrant Whole Wheat Flavor

The most popular dish at this restaurant is the signature "tsukemen." The noodles made from whole wheat are thin and resemble soba noodles, with black grains mixed in. The subtle sweetness, chewy texture, and pleasant mouthfeel are the highlights. Dip it into the rich soup for an exquisite harmony.

Endless Taste Experience

The charm of this restaurant lies not only in the noodles and soup but also in the variety of flavor changes. Try reheating the soup, adding onions, yuzu, black shichimi, and more for endless flavor variations. You can also enjoy the texture of dice-shaped char siu. Finally, adding seaweed to the soup and mixing it brings a refreshing taste.

Surprising Hospitality at the Entrance

You can also feel the elegance typical of long-established ramen shops. There are episodes where the staff kindly open the door for customers carrying suitcases. Such attentive service offers the sophisticated hospitality unique to Kyoto.

With just one bite, you'll understand why this restaurant is renowned. When you visit Kyoto, be sure to stop by and experience it for yourself.

Fast wait time for a family of 3 plus (including a 3 year old) and 1 baby. I also saw them make room for a party of 8 in no time. Vending machine in front, takes credit cards which was a huge plus for us on our last night in Japan and no more yen cash. Food was great, the meat is pretty thick and large. And the amount of noodles is pretty stellar. Rice bowl with pork belly for 350 yen is a killer deal. Tasty too! Would come back definitely. Everyone was nice. Only complaint is that it felt less connected to a singular chef or person, and more like a machine that pumped out delicious food fast for the people.

Our first time having tsukemen and being sceptical about how dipping ramen in sauce gonna be good. Turns out it is actually amazingly delicious. Portion is quite big, so you can order the additional ingredients if you really need extras.

The weather outside in Kyoto was so cold, eating hot ramen noodles was really great idea.. When I arrived, there was a short queue up line. First of all, i had to choose the food and pay for it through a machine, then wait outside with the ticket. In turn, the shop owner invited me to come inside. The shop had a very convenient place to hang clothes and store bags. I didn't think a portion of noodles here would be so big. I chose pork ramen. The broth was wonderful, suitable for my taste. The pork was tender and very yummy. I actually ate it all up, partly because I was starving, partly because the food was so great.

We came here because most nearby restaurants had already closed! I actually thought the vibe, the lighting, and the service were all great! 👌🏼👍🏼 The restroom was also pretty clean! 🫧 The food: - Tsukemen (6/10): The charsiu 🐷 and the egg were pretty satisfactory. However, the broth didn't have a strong flavor (not salty enough), which should've been the standard for this type of ramen. Now, the noodles 🍜 were the deal breaker for me (my girlfriend also felt the same)! The portion was very generous and the texture was also satisfyingly chewy. The only problem I had was that it tasted bland. I think it's made of wheat? Since the enjoyment of tsukemen comes from the noodles, I really felt like I was struggling to finish them. Nevertheless, that's not to say others won't like it. Taste buds tend to be different from person to person and their tsukemen just didn't hit the spot for us! Finally, I would recommend this restaurant if you were looking for a heathier version of tsukemen.

So full! Good value and good flavour. Loved the tsukemen. Smoked salty duck with rice was a good size for the little one. Order and pay up front at the machine then eat at a booth or table.
