Located in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, Ishiyaki Village Park is a place that vividly preserves the remnants of the thriving stone cutting industry in the Mure region. This area has long been known for its high-quality granite, and in the early modern period, many stonemasons gathered here. Inside the park, there are reconstructed stone cutting huts from that time, as well as a complete set of stonemason's tools on display.
When strolling through the park, the dignified appearance of the stone cutting huts immediately catches the eye. These huts are reconstructed from the actual ones used in the past, and inside, various stonemason's living supplies are also on display. Stepping inside the huts, one can almost imagine the craftsmen sweating in the past.
Further inside, a complete set of tools used in stone cutting is lined up. Iron wedges, large chisels, round chisels, and flat chisels, when touching these tools, one can feel the stonemason's sharp sensibility. One cannot help but think of the skills and enthusiasm of the stonemasons imbued in each tool.
The park also offers various experience corners related to stone. In Stone Hunting, visitors can explore the quarry and find and bring back stones by themselves. Additionally, there are stone carving and stone rubbing experiences prepared, allowing people to directly engage with the rarely-touched stone culture.
Ishiyaki Village Park is not just an ordinary park. It is a valuable place where one can enjoy the charm of stone culture while reflecting on the history and tradition of the stone cutting industry that once supported Mure.
