Park • Yugeshimoyuge, Kamijima, Ochi District, Ehime 794-2506, Japan
People living on remote islands have long been troubled by serious water shortages. The residents of the Kamijima Islands were forced to rely on rain for their livelihood, and during dry periods, they had to struggle to secure water.
This plight was alleviated by an unexpected bond with neighboring prefectures. Ehime and Hiroshima Prefectures cooperated to lay an undersea water pipeline from Mihara City, providing abundant water to the islands.
The residents of Kamijima-cho deeply appreciate this blessing. This 'water of life' is called 'Aimi no Mizu' and a memorial park was established. The monument in the park will forever commemorate the friendship between the two prefectures.
The park has become a place of relaxation for the islanders. You can see people sitting on the lawn, gazing at the fountain, and having lively conversations filled with humor.
For those of us living inland, it's hard to understand the hardships of water shortage on the islands. By visiting this park, you may once again deeply appreciate the preciousness of water. And you will also reflect on the bonds between people that cross prefectural boundaries.
