Known as the 21st temple of the Chichibu 34-temple pilgrimage, Kannon-ji boasts a long history. Legend says that when the monk Gyoki sought to enshrine the statue of Bodhisattva Kannon, the power of the Hachiman deity drove away evil spirits. Stories related to Prince Yamato Takeru and Taira no Masakado also add to the rich history of this place.
