Fukuzushi, standing in Mikuni Town, Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture, is an old-established sushi restaurant cherished by the locals for years. Located close to Mikuni Port, it offers exquisite sushi made with fresh local fish.
Fukuzushi's signature dish, 'Kitamae Nigiri,' is a dish where you can thoroughly enjoy the bounty of Mikuni Sea. This plate of 10 nigiri sushi features the finest local fish caught that day, showcasing the artistry of the chefs. Savory fish such as mackerel and horse mackerel dance on your tongue.
The nigiri sushi, made with seasonal local fish, pairs perfectly with local sake. Especially, pressed sushi made with Fuku’s famous fermented mackerel 'Heshiko' is a must-try for sake enthusiasts. The rich flavor of salted mackerel enhances the aroma of sake.
Conversations with the owner across the counter while he prepares sushi are also one of the charms of Fukuzushi. You can enjoy local stories and knowledge about fish on top of your meal. However, note that the service pace may quicken during busy times, so visiting during relatively free hours is recommended for a leisurely experience.
Conveniently located within walking distance from Mikuni Station, it is easily accessible for tourists as well. Business hours are from 12:00 to 14:00 for lunch and from 17:00 to 23:00 (until 21:00 on Mondays) for dinner. It is closed on Tuesdays, so please plan your visit accordingly.
Fukuzushi is truly deserving of being called the 'jewel box of Mikuni,' where you can fully enjoy the bounty of Mikuni Sea. Please come and experience the blissful time woven by local flavors and craftsmanship.
