Kurama Kadoya stands along the approach to Kurama temple, nestled on the mountainside of Mt. Kurama. This long-standing soba noodle shop, in operation since the Edo period, exudes a strong historical charm. Inside the shop, one can experience the rich history through the traditional tableware and furnishings, as well as the charming earthy clay walls.
The specialty dish is the “Kurama Soba” made with mountain vegetables from Mt. Kurama. It features a distinctive, pungent flavor with the aroma of Sansho (Japanese pepper) in the soba dipping sauce. Additionally, they offer local dishes that utilize the blessings of the mountain, including the familiar Tengu mochi sold at Kurama temple’s offertory box.
Next to the shop, a small Japanese garden stretches out. The owners meticulously maintain the garden, allowing visitors to enjoy the changing scenery throughout the seasons. It is also recommended to take a leisurely stroll through the small garden after your meal.
