Place of worship • 1440 Sano, Yamanochi, Shimotakai District, Nagano 381-0402, Japan
Sano Shrine is a small shrine nestled in an apple orchard surrounded by trees. Passing through the torii gate, you will find a well-maintained serene sacred space. The tranquil, sacred air warmly welcomes visitors.
This shrine is a consolidation of four shrines that once existed in Sano village. Efforts have been made to preserve historical buildings, such as moving the main hall of an ancient temple to Sano Shrine. The former main hall, a designated important cultural property of the country, is preserved under a reinforced concrete cover, but it can be admired on the open days organized by the local preservation society.
Sano Shrine is known for a legend that Sakuma Sosan's large flag is raised during festivals. It is a place to pass on the thoughts of the illustrious figures in history to the next generation.
This shrine, treasured by the locals, evokes the local ambiance. How about spending some quiet worship time here?
