Taste of Kumamoto, Enjoy the Authentic Keika Ramen

Standing in the back alleys of the downtown area of Kumamoto City, the long-established ramen shop Keika Ramen awaits. As the main branch of Kumamoto Ramen, this shop promises a superb bowl with a fragrant tonkotsu soup and generous toppings.

Upon visiting the shop, the rich aroma of the tonkotsu soup immediately grabs your attention. Carefully and meticulously cooked for over 12 hours, the soup offers a deep richness and a refined aroma. One sip and you'll understand the greatness of Kumamoto Ramen.

Satisfaction of Thick Pork Noodles (Toro Ramen)

The most popular menu item, the thick pork noodles, is as its name suggests, filled with a variety of ingredients. The ramen is loaded with braised pork belly, half-boiled egg, cabbage, and bamboo shoots. The firm, curly thick noodles combined with the texture and flavor of the ingredients are simply irresistible. Be sure to try this hearty and voluminous bowl.

Unique Wu Shan Pork Noodles

An exclusive offering only available at Keika Ramen, the Wu Shan pork noodles are a unique dish. This limited menu item, available only at the main and Tokyo branches, features aromatic fried pork shoulder. The addition of the fried meat enhances the umami of the soup, creating an exquisite specialty.

Revel in the Downtown Atmosphere

The charming interior of the shop exudes the nostalgic atmosphere of a traditional Japanese pub. It offers a moment to experience the warmth of the local people. Why not try the authentic taste of Kumamoto Ramen in its birthplace, and savor the flavors of a long-established shop?

It’s okay, I love the noodles a lot, but soup is okay, salty but okay. The pork meat is okay too. Dumplings, it doesn’t have too much stuffs. Fried rice is super good.

This is not far from the hotel I stay, the food is great and it does not cost you a lot. There is an English menu and staff try to help on ordering. Overall, this's a good place for your meal.

Good quality ramen with not overly salty broth. Lots of veg helps to balance out the thickness of the broth. The special has both this sliced chashu with thick cut of slow cooked pork like kakuni, both tasty but thick cut can be a bit salty.

The tonkatsu is really salty and the broth has a very strong garlic smell. Came at 2pm on a weekday and did not have to queue at all. Noodles were springy and good. Wouldn't come back again.

Good service although it seems to be always busy! Price is really great! Affordable eating! Y950 for the ramen set and Y480 for the gyoza
