This is "Shomyoji Temple" in Ujo-cho, Yanagawa-cho, Date City, Fukushima Prefecture. On my way to the roadside station Kunimi on November 10, 2023, I stopped by a ginkgo tree because it was so big. It is a large ginkgo tree designated as a cultural property by Yanagawa Town (1975) and is said to have existed since Shomyoji Temple was built in 1582 (Tensho 10). It is a huge tree with a height of 29m and a root circumference of 6.2m, and the signboard says that the pollen dispersed in early summer helps the surrounding female ginkgo trees set fruit. It seems that the leaves are not as strong this year as last year, and the person working there said that last year the soil was very smooth.
