Here is the recommended article structure.
In the Edo period, the shogun's residence, Edo Castle, had a long corridor that led from the main hall to the Shiroshoin. This was the 'Pine Corridor.' It is said that along the 50-meter-long, 4-meter-wide tatami-floored corridor, there were sliding doors with paintings of pine trees and plovers, which is how it got its name.
This Pine Corridor is known as the site of the incident where Asano Naganori, the chief retainer of the Akō Domain, attacked Kira Yoshinaka, the master of ceremonies. It was here on March 14, 1701, that Asano made his attempt on Kira's life.
At present, on the remaining site of the Pine Corridor, only a signboard and a stone monument are erected. However, it is a place where the splendor and strict discipline of the samurai from the past still linger vividly. Visitors may imagine the magnificent appearance of Edo Castle and contemplate on the history of Japan.
