Located on a small hill in Kamaishi City, Chuson-ji Kamaishi Daikannon is a popular tourist spot with its 28.6-meter tall Kannon statue capturing the attention of many. The graceful figure of Kannon overlooks the coastline, providing tranquility to those who visit Kamaishi.
By paying an admission fee, you can enter the interior of the Kannon statue. Climbing the spiral staircase to the top floor offers a magnificent view of Kamaishi Port and the Pacific Ocean. Additionally, the womb houses the statues of the Seven Lucky Gods, allowing for a leisurely visit.
In front of the Daikannon is Lover's Hill, one of the 'Three Great Sacred Sites for Lovers in Japan,' renowned as an important place for couples to tie the knot. Within the temple grounds, there is the Butsuryuden and the Aizen Myo-o statue, making it a notable power spot.
About a 10-minute taxi ride from Kamaishi Station. It is also reachable on foot using the free 3rd parking lot. There is also a paid parking lot near the Kannon statue. The surrounding souvenir shops may appear a bit deserted, but this is a place where you can experience splendid landscapes and a long history.
