The largest keyhole-shaped tomb in Shizuoka Prefecture, Asama Kofun. Let's visit this mysterious giant tomb.
The huge tumulus covered in greenery is believed to have been built around the 4th century. It is the prestigious burial ground of the regional leaders at that time. The location overlooking Suruga Bay from the mountaintop has a dignified atmosphere suitable for powerful figures.
Although no excavation has been conducted, the preservation condition of the tumulus is excellent. The grand appearance extending to the corners of the front part reflects the ancient royal authority. We can experience the grandeur of that time while reminiscing about the Kofun period.
Access requires climbing a slope for about 15 minutes from Koya Station, but the views along the way are splendid. However, there are few guide signs, making it a bit tricky to find. Perhaps visiting by motorcycle is a good suggestion.
Asama Kofun is a precious ancient heritage surrounded by a tranquil atmosphere. Let's take a leisurely stroll and feel the depth of history.
