Sakuratenjin Shrine stands in the center of Nagoya, surrounded by skyscrapers. Facing Sakura-dori, this shrine is like a hidden retreat in the city surrounded by high-rise buildings. However, within its compact precincts, there are historical monuments related to Oda Nobunaga and a cow statue filled with wishes, making it a place of great interest.
Inside the precincts of Sakuratenjin Shrine, there is a monument called the "Nobunaga Kouri Stone" that indicates the route Oda Nobunaga took towards Nagoya Castle. It is said that this monument is only erected at shrines related to the Oda family. Contemplating this monument while reflecting on history is also quite enjoyable.
Sakuratenjin Shrine is counted as one of the "Three Great Tenjin Shrines of Nagoya," alongside Yamada Tenmangu and Ueno Tenmangu. While Tenmangu shrines, dedicated to the god of learning, attract many visitors, the quiet and unassuming presence of Sakuratenjin Shrine is quite charming.
Inside the precincts, there is a rare cow statue where you can hang ema (wishing plaques) with your wishes. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, take a moment to savor the tranquility and fill your heart with wishes.
Access to Sakuratenjin Shrine is convenient. It is a 5-minute walk from Fushimi Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Higashiyama Line and Tsurumai Line, and is also within walking distance from Hisaya-odori Station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Sakura-dori Line. Located in the heart of Nagoya, it is the perfect shrine to visit during sightseeing.
One of Nagoya's representative shrines, Sakuratenjin Shrine offers a luxurious experience of escaping the city's hustle and bustle and enjoying history and tranquility.
