Hidaka Shrine, located in Oshu City, Iwate Prefecture, boasts a history of over 1200 years. During the season of fresh greenery, wisteria flowers adorn the precincts, creating a romantic atmosphere.
The traditional Dontosai festival on January 13th is a unique event representing Hidaka Shrine. A bonfire is lit in the precincts, burning auspicious New Year decorations and other lucky charms to purify evil spirits. Wishes for the new year are imbued in the rising smoke, welcoming the new year without ill intentions.
