Historical landmark • Minaminagare Azaicho Ohibino, Ichinomiya, Aichi 491-0105, Japan
The Sanmon gate standing at Unshoji Temple was once a gate of Inuyama Castle. From its majestic figure, one can still sense the tense atmosphere of the Warring States period lingering in the air today. However, knowing the journey this gate has traversed, one can discover a value beyond that of a mere historical structure.
After the storm of the Meiji Restoration had passed, this gate was relocated from Inuyama Castle to its present location. However, it suffered a collapse due to the subsequent Nobi Earthquake. Despite appearing to have crumbled, it was restored by the hands of local people, and has come to stand to this day.
While undergoing restoration, the gate manages to retain its original dignified appearance, housing the former grandeur within its sturdy beams and robust doors. Subtle traces narrating the history endow the gate with a profound spirit.
This gate is designated as a cultural property of Ichinomiya City. It is highly recommended to visit in person and experience the dignified presence that transcends time and space. Surely, a single photograph capturing this history-laden gate will become a lasting memory of your journey.
