Kamikuni-cho, known as the little Kyoto of San'in, is a place of quiet elegance. Within this tranquil atmosphere, the moss-covered approach to Jomonji stands uniquely poised. It is said that this temple was established during the Heian period, and within its long history, the temple grounds are adorned with towering venerable trees.
Proceeding along the approach, one is enveloped in a space that seems to have stopped time. The surrounding ancient trees exude a solemn and awe-inspiring presence. Here, there are traces of preservation and succession cherished by people through the ages.
As October deepens, Jomonji is adorned in resplendent beauty. The fiery red hues welcome worshippers. The burning red leaves and the moss-covered rocks create a contrasting scene, like a painting come to life.
Jomonji stands in the remote mountains of San'in. There is a charm here that is unique to San'in. By distancing oneself from the hustle and bustle of the city and immersing in the tranquility of the ancient temple, one can experience the breath of autumn from a different perspective.
