Daisen is located in Nishikawa-cho, a mountainous small village about a 30-minute drive from the center of Masuda City. With an elevation of 735 meters, this mountain boasts one of the highest peaks in Shimane Prefecture. From a distance, it gives a gentle and round impression, but once you start climbing, you will be amazed by its toughness.
The trailhead to Daisen starts from a remote location in Nishikawa-cho, and the initial few hundred meters involve a gentle ascent. However, as you enter the official climbing trail, the slope becomes steep, and you need to carefully navigate the treacherous rocky terrain. Even experienced hikers should not underestimate this challenging mountain climb.
Nevertheless, the beauty of the scenery is enough to make you forget the hardships, as if a gust of wind is blowing away your fatigue. The moment you catch your breath surrounded by the light streaming through the trees and the refreshing air, it helps you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. You might even hear the sounds of birds nearby.
Despite the high elevation, it won't take long to reach the top, and if you start early in the morning, you can greet the sunrise at the summit. In addition to the grand panoramic view and the hues of the earth illuminated by the morning sun, it's an extraordinary sight. This hidden prominent peak in Shimane promises a magnificent spectacle that will remain a lifelong memory.
