Nikkozan Onsen-ji, located in the depths of Oku-Nikko surrounded by mountains to the east and west, is truly one of Japan's proud hidden hot springs. It is said to have been founded in 1407 as a sub-temple of Rinno-ji, at the foot of Mount Nikko. Walking along the approach, the tranquil grounds filled with the atmosphere of the mountains unfold before you.
Stepping into the simple wooden bathhouse, you will find the traditional hot spring baths flowing from the source. Each bathing area for men and women has only one bath. As you soak in the bath, you will feel a pleasant warmth from the core of your body. After bathing, you can enjoy green tea and Nikko senbei in the rest area.
The hot springs of the Onsen-ji are a gift from the nature of Oku-Nikko. Enjoy the pleasure of bathing while feeling the changing seasons in this remote mountain temple. Together with the scenery of the mountains through the four seasons, Nikkozan Onsen-ji will leave unforgettable memories.
