Located in the heart of Fukui City, Asahi Mountain Fudouji Temple is a reputable Tendai sect temple. Established in 1711 (Shoutoku 1st year), it boasts over 300 years of history and has been cherished by locals.
Upon entering the temple grounds, the first thing that catches your eye is the massive red lantern. Its vivid colors create a mystical atmosphere throughout the temple. Additionally, the unique rocky surfaces from the Sakatani Stone open-air mines invite visitors into another world.
The main hall houses numerous Buddha statues, with the most impressive being the principal deity, Great Sage Great Compassion Fudou Myouou. Other statues, such as Inari Daimyojin and Benzaiten Ryujin, also await your prayers. The expressions and forms of these statues provide a sense of purification.
Asahi Mountain Fudouji Temple is also known for Mizuko memorial services. In the tranquil environment, you can reflect on the preciousness of life. The main hall allows for candle and incense offerings (fees apply).
Unfortunately, Goshuin stamps are only available during New Year's and Setsubun. However, this rarity increases their value. For avid Goshuin collectors, this is a must-visit spot.
