Katsuraya Ryokan is located in a quiet alley in Kesennuma City. Its appearance retains a strong atmosphere from the Edo period. Upon entering the entrance, you will be led into an extraordinary space as if you have become a time traveler, with thick pillars, lattice doors, and shoji screens.
The charm of the Ryokan lies in the warm hospitality of the landlady. Although it is an off-the-beaten-path accommodation not listed on reservation sites, guests are welcomed like family. Even guests arriving on motorcycles are allowed to enter the entrance, and the landlady provides detailed guidance to popular nearby shops.
The guest rooms are decorated in a pure Japanese style with sliding paper doors. The futons are soft and comfortable, offering a superb night's sleep. The clean toilet comes with a shower. Although there is no safe in the room, guests can feel secure by consulting with the landlady about their luggage.
While it is located away from the downtown area, it is conveniently situated near the station as a base for sightseeing. There is also a convenience store within walking distance, and the landlady can introduce guests to an izakaya where they can fully enjoy Kesennuma's seafood. It is a nostalgic yet fresh Ryokan, where guests can fully enjoy their trip to Kesennuma.
