Karakawa Castle Ruins are known as ruins full of historical romance. The ruins surrounded by a thicket offer a distant view of Lake Jusanko, creating a mysterious atmosphere as if entering a different world beyond time and space. As you proceed along the path to the ruins, you will encounter the remnants of the medieval atmosphere.
This castle was the residence of the Ando clan in the 15th century. It is said that Morigaki defended Jusanko against the attack by Yoritaka Nanbu and retreated here. Later, the castle was moved to Shibazaki, and further to Ezo, leaving a mystery in Morigaki's life. In addition, Morigaki's son, Yasumori, also attempted to recapture Tsugaru, but is said to have died of illness during the battle.
On site, you can firmly feel the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Traces of the former pasture can still be seen in the central bailey, and signs of excavation by the University of Toyama can also be confirmed. It is unfortunate that the view is obstructed by the poorly maintained thicket. If further maintenance is carried out, you will be able to enjoy the splendid view of Lake Jusanko from the castle ruins.
