Hayama Shrine, standing in the depths of Hanaizawa Onsen town, was founded in 807 by Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. The sanctuary has a long history and exudes a quiet and tranquil atmosphere.
On both sides of the approach, towering cedar trees several hundred years old stand, creating an impressive atmosphere with vermilion torii gates. Upon entering the precincts, the sunlight filtering through the branches creates a sacred air.
The elaborate wood carvings of the main hall are remarkable and worth attention. Additionally, the spring water from the power spot springs forth from the temizuya, and it is said that cleansing the body with this water is beneficial to health. There is also an impressive Kagura hall, and the dedication of the Hayama Kagura during the annual festival is a sight to behold.
Hayama Shrine, enveloped in a quiet and ancient atmosphere as if transcending time and space, is also known for its autumn leaves and is a hidden spot that can be enjoyed regardless of the season. Away from the hustle and bustle of the hotel district, in the sanctuary where time flows leisurely, why not contemplate the ancient history?
